Girl, Interrupted: Book Jacket

Girl, Interrupted book jacket redesign in 2 different styles. BOOK JACKET 1: Inspired by 50 pills author takes in suicide attempt. Feels especially crazy in presence of black and white checkerboard pattern. Dull, dreary color giving off same tone and feeling of book. Title is play on words as "Girl, Inter" is cut off and continued at bottom with "rupted" running into and interrupting 50 pills created in Illustrator. Pills fall apart among interruption, representing the downfall of the author's life. To look at each page or flap individually, a cut off "Girl, Inter" and "rupted" are seen. Open the jacket or connect the inside flaps however, and you see that each title connects, forming a continues loop of "Girl, Interrupted" making them whole. This represents the author coming full circle, recovering from the interruption, and getting her life back on track. BOOK JACKET 2: Inspired by setting in 1960s and author's description of insanity as a kaleidoscope, vivid, a parallel universe. Executed by digitally photographing with slow shutterspeed at night. Edited in Photoshop. Light interrupts girl's smile and face, tearing a hole in her reality.
